چکیده

In this paper, we collect radio and X-ray observations for most Fanaroff-Riley I (FRI) radio galaxies in the Zirbel-Baum radio galaxy sample, and investigate the distribution of the radio-to-X-ray effective spectral index, αrx, to test the unified scheme of BL Lac objects and FRI radio galaxies. It is found that the range of αrx for FRI radio galaxies is almost the same as that for BL Lac objects, that the distribution of αrx probably peaks at the same position as BL Lac objects, and that the distribution of αrx for FRIs is similar to that for BL Lac objects. These suggest that there exist two subclasses of FRI radio galaxies: one is HBL-like, and the other is LBL-like, corresponding to high-energy-peaked (HBL) and low–energy-peaked (LBL) BL Lac objects, respectively. This result is consistent with previous VLA observations, and supports the unified scheme of BL Lac objects and FRI radio galaxies. Subject headings: BL Lac objects: general — galaxies: active — radiation mechanism: nonthermal — radio continuum: galaxies — X-rays: galaxies

Optical Nuclei of Radio - loud AGN and the Fanaroff - Riley Divide

We investigate the nature of the point-like optical " cores " that have been found in the centres of the host galaxies of a majority of radio galaxies by the Hubble Space Telescope. We examine the evidence that these optical cores are relativistically beamed, and look for differences in the behaviour of the cores found in radio galaxies of the two Fanaroff-Riley types. We also attempt to relate...

Tev Gamma - Ray Sources ?

In this paper, we identify Cen A and M87, two nearby Fanaroff-Riley I (FRI) radio galaxies, with high-energy-peaked BL Lac-like (HBL-like) objects by investigating their spectral energy distributions (SEDs). The SED peak of Cen A at ∼150 keV, which was generally believed to be the peak of inverseCompton emission as in the case of 3C 273, is found to be actually the peak of synchrotron emission....

Radio , optical and X - ray nuclei in nearby 3 CRR radio galaxies

HST observations have shown that low-redshift 3CR radio galaxies often exhibit a point-like optical component positionally coincident with the GHz-frequency radio core. In this paper we discuss the correlation between the luminosities of the radio, optical and X-ray cores in these objects, and argue that all three components have a common origin at the base of the relativistic jets. In unified ...

On the Bl Lacertae Objects/radio Quasars and the Fri/ii Dichotomy

In the frame of unification schemes for radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs), FR I radio galaxies are believed to be BL Lacertae (BL Lac) objects with the relativistic jet misaligned to our line of sight, and FR II radio galaxies correspond to misaligned radio quasars. The Ledlow-Owen dividing line for FR I/FR II dichotomy in the optical absolute magnitude of host galaxy–radio luminosity (M...

Polarization of radio cores as a test of the unified schemes

In the unified schemes for extragalactic radio sources, the quasars and BL Lac objects are intrinsically similar to the Fanaroff-Riley class II and I radio galaxies respectively, but appear to be different because they are viewed at different angles to the line-of-sight. The quasars and BL Lac objects are observed at small viewing angles while the radio galaxies lie close to the plane of the sk...
